What better thing to get for a trip to Florida... than a tuxedo? 🤵
Ride notes
Everyone thinks going down to Florida is just about riding in the sun, but this trip was actually for the awards banquet. I still hauled the bikes down because you cannot pass up that sand training when the tracks back home are frozen solid. The video shows the contrast between trying to look halfway decent in a tuxedo and then immediately getting back into the grit. That first day out at the compound was a massive wakeup call for my lungs. The sand down there is deep and heavy. It makes you realize how much you have been slacking on your off-track cardio and your leg strength.
If you are a racer, you will probably notice the way we had to back off the high-speed compression just to keep the rear end from swapping through those big rollers. Most people watching just see the jumps, but the real work was trying to keep the front end light through those walloped-out corners without washing out the front. I realized that as much as I hate putting on a suit, those awards are just the proof of the work you put in when the cameras aren't rolling. My main takeaway was that the podium is such a short moment compared to the endless hours spent cleaning filters or grinding through long motos. I am glad I filmed the suit part because it shows the side of the sport we usually hide behind a helmet. It is all about the balance between the actual hustle and the celebration that comes after.
