MX 191

MX 191 is sitting right on the Florida Gulf Coast in Milton. It is a family-run spot that actually cares about the prep, which is getting harder to find lately. It is a solid stop on the route when you are heading through the panhandle. You have the main track that runs about a mile long, plus they have smaller setups for the kids and intermediate riders. This keeps the different skill levels separated so everyone can focus on their own pace without worrying about getting landed on.

The dirt is a mix of that classic Florida sand and some clay. It is not just a bottomless beach, but it is definitely not hardpack either. When it is irrigated right, which the owners stay on top of, it gets those deep ruts that really make you work. The layout has a good flow to it with some decent elevation changes for this part of the state. If Kyle Swanson was standing on the side of the track watching me, he would probably be on my head about corner entry speed and finding those outside lines. Since the dirt is a mix, the ruts can get pretty technical. Kyle would have us focusing on staying light on the bike and keeping the momentum up through the soft stuff without blowing out the corners. We would be working on standing up through the rollers and making sure the front end stays planted when the clay starts to peak through.

This place is worth the drive for anyone who wants a real training day without the chaos of the massive pro tracks.
