Decker Training Facility

Decker is one of those spots in Fountain, Florida that feels less like a weekend hobby and more like a real job. It is a massive compound tucked away in the panhandle where the focus is strictly on getting faster. You have five different tracks to choose from, which is basically unheard of unless you are at a high-level facility. It is not just the big national track either. They have a dedicated sand track, a beginner loop, and a pit bike track to keep you busy all day long.

The dirt here is classic Florida, which means it is sandy and demanding. The national track is built for pro-level speed, so you can expect big jumps and deep ruts that will catch your pegs if you are not careful. It gets rough in a way that actually teaches you how to ride. The sand track stays deep, which is exactly what you need when you are trying to build up that leg strength and bike control. It is the kind of place where the track changes every single lap as the lines develop and the bumps get square.

If Swanson had us out here, he would be all over our technique in the deep stuff. He would have us focusing on keeping the front end light and staying centered over the bike through those long, sandy rollers. We would probably spend a lot of time on the national track working on corner entry speed. He always says that anyone can go fast in a straight line, but Decker forces you to be precise when the dirt starts moving under you. We would also be doing long motos to see who fades first when the heat and the rough track start fighting back.

You should definitely make the trip if you are serious about your season and need a place to stay on-site. They have full RV hookups and cabins, so you can just live there and ride until you are cooked. It is perfect for families because of the beginner and pit bike tracks, but the national track is the real reason most of us load up the truck. Just make sure you bring plenty of air filters and a fresh sand tire before you show up. You are going to need them.
