2025 AMA Texas State Championship Series

Ride notes

The Texas State Championship is always a heavy weekend. This video gets right into it with that low camera angle on the gate. You can see the pins drop and how much the bike squats when the dirt actually has some tack to it. I was trying to keep my head over the bars and not let the front end wander, which is a battle when the gate is that sticky. You see the 250 class start here, and the first turn was a total mess of elbows and boots.

The heat in Texas during this series is a different kind of monster. By the second moto, my hands were starting to feel like raw meat inside my gloves, and the bike was running hot. I spent most of the day just trying to find a line that was not blown out or filled with square edge bumps. It felt like every lap the track changed. One minute you have a smooth outside line, and the next lap there is a kicker right at the lip of the triple that wants to send you sideways.

If you look closely at the fifteen second mark when I am coming out of the bowl turn, you can see my rear wheel skip once. That happened because I was dragging too much rear brake through the chop instead of letting the suspension work. It is a bad habit I have been trying to kick. I realized after watching this that I am over-muscling the bike when I get tired. My main takeaway for the next round is to stay loose and let the bike move under me more. You cannot win a moto by fighting the ruts.
