30 Hours to Florida in an RV — Tuxedos, Alligators & Hurricane Bertha | Southeast Road Trip Ep. 1

Ride notes

I spent thirty hours locked in that RV just to get to the first gate drop of the winter season. Most people see the travel as a vacation, but by hour twenty, your legs are cramping and you are just staring at the GPS counting down the miles to the Florida line. This video covers that long haul and the weird crossover of my real life. I actually had to pack a tuxedo right next to my gear bag because of a wedding I had to hit during the trip. It looks ridiculous seeing a dress suit hanging next to a muddy set of Fox gear, but that is the reality when you are trying to balance school and racing.

Once we actually hit the sand, the humidity from Hurricane Bertha made everything feel heavy. The sand was not that dry, fluffy stuff you see in some edits. It was wet and grabbing the front wheel every time I tried to carry speed through the rollers. One thing you will notice if you watch the GoPro footage is how much I am fighting the bike to keep the front end light. I had to go two clicks stiffer on the compression just to keep the forks from diving in those deep transitions. If you do not have your suspension dialed for that heavy Florida dirt, you are going to be over the bars before the first moto is even halfway done. My main takeaway from this leg of the trip was that the work starts way before you even unload the bike.
